Although change is a natural and often necessary part of our lives, change can feel overwhelming and intimidating. Unexpected change forces us to re-evaluate our direction. As a therapist, I help those who are stuck by supporting them as they explore their inner selves. By finding their hidden potential, they can move forward.
I work with couples, families and individuals; but specialize in children who have been affected by change. Children don’t understand what is happening and often feel responsible for the change. Utilizing art and play therapy, I help children learn, develop and express their feelings in their natural method of learning – Play. Play therapy provides children an opportunity to use their natural creativity and imagination to heal and to discover new skills or talents.
Professional/Personal Statement: I worked for Sacramento County in their School Based Outpatient unit for several years. This experience allowed me to work with many different populations in numerous settings. I believe that everyone has the potential to do something well if they are willing to first explore the possibilities and then to utilize their special gifts. In school settings, I saw children who had been labeled as disruptive or not engaged in the classroom.
I tried to help these children find out who they were and to support and foster their personal growth.
